The Collie Power Soccer Club women’s team returned for preseason training, with a familiar face joining the group.
Around 25 players turned out for the team’s first session of the new season on Sunday, January 21, with training led by the Matildas and Perth Glory star Sam Kerr.
Kerr, along with her brother, former West Coast Eagles star Daniel Kerr, put the team through a number of skills-based exercises before finishing the session with a practice match.
Collie Power Soccer Club president Shane Cole had organised Kerr’s visit as a way to get people in interested in the women’s team and he said the session was a success.
“It’s good to see so many ladies come out for the session,” he said.
Mr Cole also said it was a good experience for the team to be able to learn from one of the best soccer players in the world.
Despite the warm weather, Kerr took the players through a range of activities designed to help develop their skills in passing, crossing and shooting for goal.
The soccer club also hosted an intimate question and answer session with Sam Kerr at the Collie Ridge Motel, where guests got the chance to pick Kerr’s brain about her experiences. Daniel Kerr served as the MC of the event.
They also held a memorabilia auction, to raise funds for some upgrades around the club’s facilities.
