The South West Football League is looking for umpires to help officiate games during the 2018 season.
SWFL general manager John Vidos said that the number of games played each round meant the league needed a large contingent of umpires.
“People don’t realise that we need 75 umpires every weekend, which will probably go up to 81 with the women’s games.”
“Sometimes umpires are unavailable and they get injured just like every one else, so over a season we probably need around 100 umpires.”
Mr Vidos said becoming an umpire would a good opportunity for retired players who want to remain involved in the game.
“They always think they know the rules of the game better than the umpires, so it’s a good opportunity to put that into practice,” he said.
Mr Vidos said anyone interested should get in contact with the SWFL for more information.
The league is also seeking expressions of interests for the positions of senior field umpire coach, boundary umpire coach and goal umpire coach.
Mr Vidos said umpire coaches were an important part of the game and would help guide and teach the younger umpires coming into the league.
Applications for the positions close on Friday, February 9. For more information, visit swfl.com.au.
The SWFL season begins on April 14.
