The Collie Railway Station Group made a historic find recently, coming across a photo book of Western Australian landmarks and a collection of East Indian Railway Company blueprints in their library.
Collie Railway Station Group president Jeanette MacLaren-Hall said they had come across the book while completing a stocktake.
She also said she couldn’t date the book, but that the group intended to send it to the The Royal Western Australian Historical Society.
“It’s got too much historical value to be sitting on a shelf deteriorating,” she said.
Along with the book, the stocktake also turned up a collection of 10 blueprints from the East Indian Railway Company.
Ms MacLaren-Hall said she had no idea how or when the Railway Station had come into ownership of the blueprints.
She also said that the Collie Railway Station Group is in desperate need of more volunteers to continue running.
Ms MacLaren-Hall said that the group had already had to close the station on Tuesdays, and would only run from Wednesday to Sunday.
She said that apart from extra help on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sunday mornings, the group also needs a secretary and a treasurer.
Ms MacLaren-Hall said that having local knowledge of the area and the railway station is not necessary.
