It took just over a year, but Central Park saw history take place on Saturday, January 27.
Kathryn and Alan Edwards were joined by 30 of their closest friends and family as they became the first couple to get married in Central Park since it opened in December 2016.
The couple said they had chosen to hold their wedding in the park so that it would be a fun day for everyone invited, with children able to entertain themselves on the playground and the water park.
Ms Edwards said that she was surprised at how easy it was to organise the wedding, which they did in six weeks.
“It was done so easy,” she said.
“We got permission from the shire and got all the paperwork done. All they asked was that there was no alcohol, which was fine because we don’t drink anyway.”
Kathryn and Alan originally met at school in Perth but drifted apart when they finished school, before running into each other years later and rekindling their relationship.
They said they felt it was time to get married after spending more than 20 years together.
Ms Edwards said the couple had no idea that they were the first couple to tie the knot in the park, but that they would do it again if they had their time again.
