AFTER seven weeks off the Year 8s were back on the field last Saturday at Roche Park to play against Eaton; Eaton won the toss and chose to bat.
Blayden Coverley opened the bowling with Adam Worlley and it was Worlley who took the first two wickets, both bowled, with the score 2/8. Coverley made it 3/9 with a caught and bowled and finished with three overs 1/8. Worlley bowled three overs, three maidens 2/0. Baxter Miller came on and bowled three overs 0/9 before Judd Rinder found himself on a hat-trick by hitting the stumps twice to have Eaton 5/20. Unfortunately the hat-trick ball wasn't to be and Rinder finished with three overs, two maidens 2/1.
Josh Elliott who has been working on providing a spin bowling option for the team, bowled two overs 0/5, then Lucas Worlley filling in for his first game of Year 8s this season took a wicket by hitting the stumps in his first over. 6/24 then become 7/25 with a run out and after the first 15 Eaton were 7/28.
Collie opened the batting with Jackson Broadbent and Robbie Chitty with the big fella Broady enjoying himself, hitting five boundaries in his first 18 balls. Chitty provided good support pushing the ball around before being caught for 13 with the score 1/40 after eight overs. Zak Reuben was in at three and the pair who normally open the bowling together, showed the depth this team is developing with 60-run partnership before "Big Bird" Broadbent notched up his first half century on the last ball of the first 15 overs. Collie went to the break 1/100 after 15 overs.
The team now has five players who have made their first 50s this season; great signs looking forward for the future of Collie cricket.
Eaton resumed batting and Lucas Worlley started up the bowling with Max Ireland. Young Worlley bowled well and finished with four overs 1/10. The eighth wicket fell with the score on 37 thanks to a run out, then Ireland made it 9/37 with a caught and bowled. Ireland bowled very well for three overs 1/3. Zak Reuben bowled one over 0/2 before Robbie Chitty wrapped up the innings by hitting the stumps to have 1.3 overs 1/2. Eaton all out for 43.
Collie went back out to bat with Zak Reuben and Taj Jackson at the crease. Unfortunately Jackson was out bowled for one early on and the score 2/111. Max Ireland joined Reuben and he hit the ball well right from the start. Reuben enjoyed some valuable time in the middle and was retired on a well made 28.
Baxter Miller come out and hit a nice boundary before being run out for eight with the score 3/156. Ireland made a quick 35 before being run out pushing for a half century with the score 4/174. Josh Elliott also batted well and was retired on 15; Blayden Coverley retired on seven which included his second 6 for the season and in doing so brought up the first score of 200 for the team. Adam Worlley finished four not out and Lucas Worlley faced the last two balls but finished 0 not out. Collie finished on 4/205 from 30 overs.
Collie won by 162 runs and now sit three wins clear on top of the ladder with four rounds to go, which includes a bye in the last round.
