Students from around Collie were treated to an unforgettable experience as the West Coast Eagles visited schools on Tuesday, February 13.
Eagles Shannon Hurn, Nathan Vardy, Jamie Cripps, Andrew Gaff, Will Schofield and Kurt Mutimer visited schools around Collie as part of the club’s South West Community Camp.
The players spoke to students about the benefits of eating healthy and living an active lifestyle, before taking questions about their careers, training and experiences.
Students also got to meet the players and have their West Coast jumpers, footballs, flags and posters signed.
West Coast captain Shannon Hurn said it was really important for the club to get out to schools and promote a healthy lifestyle.
“Coming out to country schools and being able to pass on some information about the importance of eating healthy, drinking properly and doing homework and training is important,” he said.
Hurn also said it was a great experience to come out to regional towns like Collie and meet fans.
“Most of the players that came out here are from the country, so we know what it’s like,” he said.
“It’s hard when you come from the country to come up to the city and watch us play football.
“So to come out here and, I suppose, put a smile on kids’ faces when they get to see some of their heroes from on TV, it is always pretty exciting.”
