Representatives from Alzheimer’s WA visited ValleyView Residence this week to check out the projects the aged-care facility had undertaken to help residents living with dementia.
ValleyView Residence executive manager Joy Halleron took the representatives from Alzheimer’s WA on a tour of the facility on Tuesday, March 13, to showcase all the upgrades that had been made for residents over the last year.
ValleyView Residence partnered with Alzheimer’s WA about a year ago to improve the care given to the residents.
As part of the partnership, Alzheimer’s WA provided support and training to the staff, residents and their families at ValleyView.
ValleyView Residence also received a $30,000 grant in order to fund projects around the facility that would enable residents to live in a homely environment.
Over the past year, ValleyView undertook several projects, including the the restructuring of the central courtyard to create a usable space for residents.
The restructure saw the installation of vegetable gardens, shade sails, fun activities, a small putting green with clubs and other supplies donated by the Collie Golf Club and a chicken coop, filled with four chickens donated by the community.
ValleyView Residence also undertook some projects to improve the inside of the facility, buying some new furniture and the putting up wall paper and decals to personalise the spaces for the residents.
