If you’ve driven past the Collie Recreation Ground recently, you may have noticed a fierce-looking eagle staring back at you.
The Collie Eagles Football Club recently hired local artist Ash Griggs to design a mural on the back wall of the clubrooms at the ground.
Mr Griggs said League captain Matt Blackford had pitched the idea of filling the ‘blank canvas’ and that he was excited to have been involved.
He said the club had given him free rein over the design and that he enjoyed ‘not being boxed it’.
The process of painting the Eagle took Mr Griggs more than five hours, which he split over two sessions.
Mr Griggs said it was daunting to be putting his artwork up in a public space where he can’t make changes, but that it was ‘cool to have the exposure.’
Mr Griggs said art was a side-project for him at the minute and the eagle was just his third mural, but that the response to his work had been ‘great’.
He said he has since been asked to design more murals by other clubs and businesses as a result of the piece.
