The Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) held a forum in Bunbury on Saturday for women diagnosed with breast cancer and metastatic disease with 155 women attending from the South West.
Divided into early breast cancer and metastatic disease groups, the forum gave women and their partners an opportunity to get answers to questions, important advice from experts and to build a support network.
BCNA chief executive officer Kirsten Pilatti said the vibe in the room was fantastic and the forum enabled a support group in the South West for women living with metastatic disease to form.
“We’ve had a really good outcome. We’ve been able to link up and actually get a support group for women living with metastatic disease, so that’s where the breast cancer spreads to other parts of their body,” she said.
Mrs Pilatti said the forum was also beneficial for partners.
“The impact breast cancer has on relationships is really significant, so husbands got a lot out of it and understanding what their wife is going through and how they can help,” said Mrs Pilatti.
