After a slow start for the Collie Eagles in the first quarter they quickly upped the anti dominating the remainder of the game resulting in a 53 point win over the Eaton Boomers.
Having both had a win last week in round one of the South West Football League both teams were eager for another, but it was the Eagles who came out on top and claimed the 10.14 (74) to 2.9 (21) win.
The weather conditions proved for a tough game on Sunday for round two at the Collie Recreation Centre with heavy rain in the first quarter and then easing off later into the game.
Coming out firing and kicking two goals and one behind in the first quarter the Boomers were off to a steady start.
Collie Eagles coach Seth White said the Boomers controlled the tempo of the game in the first quarter.
“We knew they would come out firing because obviously they had a real good win last week.
White said the first term was disappointing on the Eagles behalf.
"The first quarter was probably a bit of a let down, we let them control the tempo of the game," he said.
At quarter time the Boomers only led by one goal, which meant the door was still open for the Eagles to take the game on.
“At quarter time I told them to get the game back on our terms," White said.
The Eagles went into the second term with a different structure on the field, allowing them set the game up into their control.
They managed to kick five goals and three behinds taking the lead out from underneath the Boomers.
Player Joe Houghton was able to move up the ground and line up some effective forward shots for the Eagles.
“The second quarter was definitely our best after the way we started,” White said.
At half time the Eagles led 6.4 (40) to the Boomers 2.3 (15) and White told the team to continue to 'take the game away’ from the Boomers.
The third quarter saw a lot of missed opportunities on both sides with multiple behinds being kicked.
As the sun peeked through the clouds the Eagles were sitting comfortably on a 30 point lead going into the final quarter.
The final quarter saw the Eagles fighting to increase their margin on the Boomers with Blair Malatesta, Jesse Ramshaw and Aaron Elari converting all contributing to the scoreboard.
After the siren rang the Eagles celebrated their 53 point victory over the Boomers.
“We’ve started really good this year and teams are going to come prepared to play against us so we’ve got to be switched on from the start,” White said.
“We’ve got Donnybrook up here next so that will be another big challenge. They’ve lost their first two but they’re a better side than that so they’ll come up here exactly like Eaton wanting to knock us off the top spot and we’ll have to be prepared for that,” White said.
The Collie Eagles will go head to head with Donnybrook in the ANZAC Legacy Round on Saturday April 28 at Collie Recreation Ground at 2:30pm.
