The Collie Public Library is holding its first ever mine escape room starting this weekend as a part of Library and Information Week.
The Australian Library and Information Association has partnered with Booktopia this year for Library and Information week which is takes place from May 21-27.
The theme for this year is find yourself in a library, which encourages Australians to go check-out their local libraries.
Collie Library and Information Services Officer Sara Cole said it was the first time the town has had an escape room.
"It's an interactive themed puzzle room, so basically you come up with a story line and go in and the idea is to theoretically be locked in but you solve puzzles to find your way out.
"We haven't one here before, this is our first time kind of running and creating it," she said.
The room is ideal for teams of four to six people with ages 15 or older to complete it on their own, children must be accompanied by an adult.
Mrs Cole said escape rooms were a lot of fun and a worldwide phenomenon.
"There are several companies in Perth that have escape rooms of various sorts and one just opened in Bunbury as well but it's like a worldwide phenomenon now and it's just a lot of fun, particular if you like puzzles,” she said.
To enter the room it’s free but a gold coin donation is appreciated, volunteers will also be giving up their weekend to run the escape room.
The escape room will be running on May 19, 20, 26 and 27.
Bookings are essential and can be booked through eventbrite.com.au
If sold out the Collie Public Library may look at extending the mine escape room to be held on more dates.
