A different exhibition showcasing the works of two local artists is coming to the Collie Art Gallery this weekend.
The Beyond Boundaries exhibition will display the works of Diana Symes and Robert Turner from May 19 to June 17.
Getting the exhibition ready for opening day, the pair said people could expect to see something vastly different from the other exhibitions held at the gallery.
"They can expect something different, we've been making different types of things that are perhaps of interest to other people," Mrs Symes said.
"It's adventure with the textiles,” Mr Turner said.
Working with a number of different materials including plants, leaves, dried skeletal insects, silk, wool, cotton and wrapping paper, Mrs Symes is a textile artist who said she turns interesting materials into wearable art forms, sculptures and wall art.
"Mushrooms, skeleton things, anything I see I always see into it and keep it for the one day that it becomes useful. It blends into something eventually,” she said.
Mr Turner is a skilled artist in timber machining and coach building, working with old tools and machinery to make sculptures and wall art.
”My work is mostly vintage machinery parts from the 1800's up until 1980's,” Mr Turner said.
The pair first met when they entered a piece into the art competition at the Griffin Festival of the Arts, now known as FestivArty.
"I put in a piece of sculpture in and he put in a piece and he won and I got second,” Mrs Symes said.
Both artists have work all around the world, Mrs Symes exhibits in New Zealand often and her other works go as far as the USA, England, South Africa and all around Australia.
Mr Turner has works in America, Sydney, Darwin and said he also does roadshows all across WA.
"I've done a lot of roadshows, I go to Albany, Brunswick, Perth and different places and set up the marques and have a quite a big display, the tents are constantly full because people just haven't seen anything like that before,” he said.
The Beyond Boundaries exhibition starts at the Collie Art Gallery on Saturday afternoon at 2pm. For more information visit www.collieartgallery.org.au/
