The South West Riders Social Club is asking members of the community to give back and donate new or secondhand blankets for their blanket run.
The blanket run now in its fifth year will see motorcycle members ride from Collie to Bunbury, dropping off blankets to the In Town Centre in Bunbury on June 10.
South West Riders Social Club creator Stephen Chitty said initially he started the group as a social riding group but then decided a blanket run would be a great idea to give back to the community.
“I had a friend over East and they were doing a blanket ride and I thought about it for about two years and then I thought let’s go for it,” Mr Chitty said.
The club chose the In Town Centre as a point of donation because Mr Chitty said they help out local people.
“In Town Centre Shoestring cafe in Bunbury, they work off local donations and we thought that would be the place to give them,” he said.
In Town Centre manager Leanne Gibbs said that they distribute the blankets to those in a dire need.
“There are a lot of people living on the street, or couch surfing and extreme low income, so generally it’s for people who are doing it really tough,” Mrs Gibbs said.
South West Riders Social Club member and daughter of Stephen Ashley Chitty said the run makes a difference.
“It’s only a couple of hours of our time every winter and it’s a whole winter for someone else so it makes all the difference,” she said.
