MEN’S
THE Power men’s team faced Hay Park on Sunday, May 13, at Roche Park in Collie.
Hay Park began well and had complete control in the first 20 minutes, eventually going ahead after a neat passage of play.
Collie fought back with Seth Chiellini levelled the scoring.
From then on, the hosts were able to play the game on their terms to ensure a 1-1 score line at the break.
The Power sat deep and absorbed pressure at the start of the second half.
They were able to put themselves ahead when the prolific Mark Tenney, aware the Hay Park keeper was well off his line, sent a lofted shot from a long way out into the net.
Soon after, Tenney put away his second (via the penalty spot) and third of the afternoon before newcomer Hai Nguyen unselfishly played Chiellini in at close range for his second.
The final score was 5-1 in favour of the Power.
They play Eaton-Dardanup again at home, this Sunday, in which they will be looking to keep their unbeaten record intact.
WOMEN’S
The Collie Power ladies took on Australind at Roche Park in a game which didn't really reflect the final score.
The first half was a tight tussle with the Power having chances to take the lead but unable to convert until sweeper Kirsten Thomson moved further forward and slotted the ball into the back of the net from a distance for a one-nil lead to the Power.
Australind fought back and with not long to go in the half, scoring the equaliser to send it to one-all at the break.
The second half started with Thomson moved into the midfield and Sarah Dalton playing at sweeper.
With goal keeper Merika Blythe playing a brilliant game backed up by the defense of Dalton, Shenae Magill, Stacey Reid, Chrystle Uren and Neva Goyle, the Power kept Australind at bay until, with about 25 minutes to go, when Australind finally broke through to lead 2-1.
Australind went on to score three more goals to take the game 5-1 at the final whistle.
The improvement in the Power ladies side is really showing though; and as the season progresses we will see results go in their favour.
The ladies have a bye this coming weekend which will allow them to recharge their batteries ready to play Capel away in two weeks.
