Jim Moyses returned to his best form to win the 18-hole stroke competition last Saturday, sponsored by Collie Freightlines.
In atypical weather conditions for this time of year, Moyses relished the humid conditions with his hot putter, finishing the day with a great nett score of 68.
Runner-up with a nett 70 score was low marker, Alex Tweedie who played a quality round, grossing 76 off-the-stick.
Graham Williams and Alan Kent were next, each scoring 71 nett with Williams taking third place on a countback.
Another low marker in Warren Hann also had a good round, finishing the day with 72 nett.
Peter Coombs and Steven Ireland each received a voucher for their respective scores of 73 nett.
Dot Lawrence was again the ladies winner with her nett score of 77.
Novelty winners on the day were: NTPs – Redgie Old (4), Dot Lawrence (4), Graham Williams (7) and Darren O’Brien (14); Longest first putts – Ian Stewart (6), Jim Moyses (9) and Denis Cocker (18); Long drive on No. 15 – Darren O’Brien.
Ken Tate and John Williamson both scored 20 stableford points in last Thursday’s nine-hole scroungers competition.
On a spin, Tatie took out first place, relegating Willo to the runner up position.
Two shots behind the leaders’ scores were Neil Motion, Ed Riley, Alan Kent and Bruce Miller, all scoring 18 points apiece.
Novelties went to Bruce Miller (4), Ray McGill (6) and Alan Kent (9).
Last Tuesday’s leisure day competition was won by low marker, Colin Giblett with a stableford score of 38 points.
A trio of players, each scoring 37 was one shot adrift of the winner. In countback order, these players were Steven Ireland, Trevor McCormick and Bill Rybarczyk.
Making a welcome return to the fairways after a lengthy holiday break was Keith Godfrey, who along with Frank Battista finished the day with 35 points.
Rounding out the vouchers, each scoring 34 points were Mick Jack, Eric Annandale and Jim Moyses.
John Wray, with his score of 36 points, won the best vet award.
Novelties were won by Phil Warburton (4), Peter Coombs (7), Gary Old (9), Roger Hunter (14) and Steven Ireland (18).
On Wednesday, 26 lady golfers played a stroke event for the Captain’s and Vice Captain’s trophies.
In the A-grade Bev Moyses’ score of 74 nett was the best on a countback from Deb VanVollenstee, also 74.
Third place went to Dot Sullivan on 75, followed by Dot Lawrence on 80, winning the countback from Eileen Riley.
Lesley Motion won the B-grade with 66 nett, 10 shots clear of Rhonda Annanadale with 76.
Next came Debra Martin on 80, with fourth and fifth places going to Blanche Faries 82 on a countback from Lorraine Annandale 82.
Novelties were won by E. Riley (Flowers on Forrest), D. VanVollenstee (Sportfirst), D. Sullivan (Boulevarde) and L. Motion (Club).
On Saturday, Bankwest will sponsor a stableford event for men and women, with great prizes and novelties, followed by pizzas at end of play in the afternoon.
This Saturday’s event is an 18 hole stableford, sponsored by Bankwest. Refreshments will be available post game.
The Stoney Creek event will run this Sunday commencing at 10.30 am. Refreshments will also be available post game in this event.
Scroungers will take place on Thursday with leisure day next Tuesday.
