The Collie Eagles women’s team picked up its first ever win on Sunday against South Bunbury.
In just its third competitive game, the Eagles women’s team proved too strong for the Tigers in the 5.1 (31) to 3.5 (23) victory.
The Eagles started strong in the first quarter and kicked two goals, through captain Teah Hill and Rinay Swallow, to none to take a 10 point lead into the first break.
South Bunbury turned it around in the second quarter and kept Collie scoreless as they kicked two goals of their own to retake the lead by four points at half time.
Both teams had their chances to score in the third term but the Eagles defence held strong and goal from Meg Purton gave Collie a three point lead with just a quarter to go.
With the game on the line, Brooklyn Nelson was the one to stand up for the Eagles as she kicked two important goals – including a snap from the boundary line – to seal the eight point win.
The results weren’t as great for the rest of the Collie teams, with both the colts and reserves sides recording defeats.
The colts were let down by their inaccuracy as they fell to a 5.14 (44) to 11.7 (73) loss to the Tigers.
The reserves were also beaten comprehensively by South Bunbury, recording just ten scoring shots on the way to a 7.3 (45) to 15.12 (102) defeat.
