The South West Riders Social Club braved the wet weather and rode from Collie to Bunbury on Sunday for their annual blanket run.
Each year the club asks members of the community to donate new or secondhand blankets which they deliver to the In Town Centre, Shoestring Cafe in Bunbury.
Members left from the Collie Visitor Centre at around 10am and Caltex Service station in Gelorup at 11.30am, where they rode to meet at the InTown Centre in Bunbury.
South West Riders Social Club creator Stephen Chitty started the blanket run five years ago to help out local people.
“I had a friend over East and they were doing a blanket ride and I thought about it for about two years and then I thought let’s go for it,” Mr Chitty said.
“In Town Centre Shoestring cafe in Bunbury, they work off local donations and we thought that would be the place to give them.”
In Town Centre manager Leanne Gibbs said they received over 270 blankets.
“Considering the poor weather we are very appreciative of it all. The centre kept most of them and share some with other agencies,” Mrs Gibbs said.
South West Riders Social Club member and daughter of Stephen, Ashley Chitty, said initiatives like this one make a difference.
“It’s only a couple of hours of our time every winter and it’s a whole winter for someone else so it makes all the difference,” she said.
