It was a disastrous weekend for the Collie Eagles with the colts, reserves and women’s teams all beaten comfortably by Bunbury on Sunday.
The colts started the day with a 104-point defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs.
The Eagles were competitive in the first half, trailing by just 22 points at half time, but they were kept scoreless after half time. The Bulldogs piled on 12 goals of their own after the main break to take the 2.3 (15) to 17.17 (119) win.
Jaxon Woodhouse and Rory Bebbington kicked the Eagles’ goals, while Jakob Pilatti and Jake Fowler starred.
The colts result was almost repeated in the reserves, with the Eagles going down by 85 points.
The Eagles kicked both of their goals in the first quarter and were restricted to just three behinds after quarter time as Bunbury steadily increased its lead throughout the 2.5 (17) to 16.6 (102) victory.
Alex Tweedie and Gavin Ryan were the goal kickers.
The women’s team was impressive in its defeat by the league’s top team and reigning premiers.
The Eagles held Bunbury to 50 points – almost two goals less than the 60 points it averaged per game over the first eight rounds – but it wasn’t enough as they were kept goalless in the 0.2 (2) to 7.8 (50) defeat.
Rachel Shepherd was involved in everything for the Eagles, while Rinay Swallow and Legacy Poata also played well.
