The Collie Public Library and Our Community Garden are set to launch their very own community seed library.
The Collie Seed Library will be free and available to all Collie Public Library card holders and will supply a variety of free fruit and vegetable seeds for people to grow at home.
Shire of Collie Information Services manager Alison Kidman said the project would have a positive impact across the community.
“Seed libraries have many benefits, complementing our gardening and cooking books, promoting gentle exercise and relaxation through gardening, and providing opportunities to save money and eat healthier,” she said.
“They are also a great opportunity for the library to partner with other community groups such as the community garden group.
“Who knows, perhaps it may give people who wouldn’t normally come to the library a reason to pop in and discover the veritable smorgasbord of what the library has to offer.”
Users of the seed library will be equipped with the knowledge to plant, grow, and harvest the seeds to be returned for other members to borrow.
The launch of Collie Seed Library will take place at the Collie Public Library on Wednesday, July 18 from 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
