The Shire of Collie council provided feedback on the State Government’s Stop Puppy Farming Consultation paper at the latest council meeting.
In May 2016, the WA Labor Government released the policy outlining a number of measures to stop the overbreeding of dogs, making changes to both the Animal Welfare Act and the Dog Act.
Council supported the officers recommendation for registration, micro-chipping and de-sexing of dogs to be all done within six months of age despite the added workload.
Council also accepted that this would increase the number of dogs needing to be rehomed, as some owners would surrender or release their dogs rather than pay additional fees.
