Collie Police have charged two women and a man after they allegedly tried to sell 400 kilograms of stolen copper wire.
Senior Sergeant Heath Soutar said a 27-year-old Collie man and a 38-year-old Collie woman had been charged with possessing stolen property and a 35-year-old Bunbury woman had been charged with possessing stolen property and fraud.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said police were alerted on July 13 that the group were attempting to sell 400kg of copper wire to a scrap metal dealer in Bunbury.
They will appear in the Collie Magistrates Court next month.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said police believe some of the copper may have been stolen during a burglary at a business premises in Rowlands Road two days earlier.
Overnight between July 10 and 11, the offender cut through a padlock to enter the property.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said the offender had stolen a Toyota LandCruiser, which they had filled up with approximately 200kg of copper from the premises before driving off.
He said police had recovered the LandCruiser on Booth Street on July 12 after it had been burned out.
Police are also investigating after the Collie Police Station was allegedly rammed in a deliberate attack on the weekend.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said there had been an altercation between a two females and a male in the station’s carpark at 2.30am on July 15.
He said the male then began banging on the station’s door and when he received no response, he allegedly jumped in his car and deliberately reversed into the station’s roller door, causing criminal damage.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said a witness to the incident had contacted police and he was hopeful further witnesses would also come forward.
Police are also looking for information about a burglary in Wittenoom Street where the occupant was home at the time.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said the victim awoke at 2am on July 16 and found the offender in his bedroom.
The offender fled out the back door when he was disturbed, taking cash and a mobile phone.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said police had attended 68 jobs over the past week and charged nine people with offences.
