Members of the Collie Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service did their bit to recognise the support of a volunteer recently.
Brigade captain Shane Hickson said members had chipped in to send Luciano Crescenzi to Optus Stadium to watch Perth Glory take on Chelsea last week for his 80th birthday, in recognition of the support he had provided to the brigade.
Mr Crescenzi said he was very thankful for the experience.
“I was very happy with the present, it was something I have never received before,” he said.
“My wife wouldn’t go to the soccer match so I took my son in law Brent Italiano.
“I was very surprised to see the shape of the new stadium, I was very impressed and it brought some memories back of my last holiday in Rome because I honestly think it’s much the same as the Colosseum.”
Mr Crescenzi and his wife Kathy started volunteering at the station after their son Pasquino got involved with the Collie Volunteer and Rescue Service.
“They’re a gorgeous bunch of guys,” Mrs Crescenzi said.
“We help to cook pizza and wash the dishes, whatever is necessary to help keep the group together. I believe they do a marvelous job and they put their life at risk, they are one big happy family.”
