People in need in Collie will sleep warmer this winter thanks to the Rotary Club of Collie and Qantas.
Last month, Qantas donated approximately 3500 used blankets and doonas to Rotary clubs across the state for distribution to people who need some extra help this winter.
With Collie known for its chilly winters, it wasn’t long before several local agencies requested some for distribution.
After filling a ute, about 20 bags were transported from Perth to Collie by the Rotary Club, with each bag containing 10 blankets or five doonas.
The blankets were then distributed to a number of agencies in Collie, who in turn will ensure that they will be given directly to people in need.
The agencies receiving the blankets included the Collie PCYC, Collie Community Centre, Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray’s office and the Collie Adult Day Care Centre.
Qantas, who was responsible for the generous donation, asked the Rotary Club to ensure the blankets would go directly to the needy rather than be sold.
