The Collie Eagles colts team’s finals hopes were crushed with a one-point defeat at the hands of Carey Park on Saturday.
Needing a win to keep their season alive, the colts got off to a slow start and trailed the Panthers by seven points at half time.
Carey Park took control in the third quarter and extended the margin out to 13 points, setting up a big challenge for the Eagles.
The colts did their best with a final quarter charge, but the three goal to one term left the Eagles just one point short as the final siren sounded on the 8.5 (53) to 8.6 (54) defeat.
The reserves team was outclassed by the Panthers around the ground as it recorded an 81 point defeat.
With several different faces taking the field for the reserves, the Eagles were restricted to just one point in the first half.
The Eagles were able to put a few through the big sticks after half time but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers ran away with the 3.4 (22) to 15.13 (103) victory.
A poor third quarter condemned the women’s team to a 25 point defeat to Carey Park.
The Eagles kicked just one goal in the first half but restricted the Panthers to two and trailed by eight points at half time.
But the Eagles were kept scoreless as the Panthers put the game out of reach in the third quarter of the 2.3 (15) to 6.4 (40) loss.
