Federal Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson is calling on Collie community organisations to apply for a share of the $20 million available to support the efforts of their volunteers.
Mr Wilson said grants of up to $5000 were available to help community organisations with their volunteering and fundraising efforts.
“Grants of between $1000 and $5000 will help community organisations purchase items such as computer equipment and kitchen appliances, pay fuel costs, train volunteers and improve their fundraising efforts,” Mr Wilson said.
“Thirty-eight organisation in O’Connor were among the 2690 groups nationally who benefited from the Volunteer Grants in 2017/18.
“Successful recipients included Collie Riding for Disabled Association which was awarded $2859 to purchase computer equipment and reimburse volunteers fuel costs and the Collie Lions Club which received $3470 for landscape gardening.”
Mr Wilson said the funding would help make it easier and more enjoyable for volunteers committing their time to various community organisations.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community and by continuing to help each other and work together, we are building a stronger and safer Australia,” he said.
“Volunteering is also a proven pathway to get people into jobs, reduce marginalisation and increase community participation.
“I encourage all not-for-profit organisations to apply for the Volunteer Grants to help make the work of their volunteers easier, safer and more enjoyable.”
