It was ‘moving day’ for the fireman in the sports section of the Coalfields Museum recently.
Coalfields Museum and Historical Research Centre president Joe Italiano said champion fireman Dudley Magill, who dominated state firemen’s competitions from 1955 to 1979, has been given a new, brighter home.
The display also features cricketing icon Ted Mills and a classic photograph of a 1938 rowing team which included the Hay brothers – Ken and George.
Also of great interest to football followers will be the 31 team photographs which have now been given the prominence they deserve.
Mr Italiano praised the work of Mr Pipe and his team of workers.
“Their efforts have resulted in much brighter and more interesting displays of our sports and military collections which have been given major makeovers in recent months,” he said.
The Coalfields Museum and Historical Research Centre officially took over management of the museum from Collie Shire council’s Museum Transition Committee in July.
