Seasoned campaigners Ed Riley and Frank Battista combined very well to win the Challenge Process Chemicals-sponsored four-ball-better-ball competition last Saturday.
Astute play around the greens enabled the partnership to compile 46 stableford points, one better than runners-up Phil Warburton and Peter Coombes, who finished with 45 points.
Finishing third on a countback were Brian Banks and Ian Shannon on 43 points, with Chris Stewart and Mick Dowling, fourth, also on 43 points.
David Broadbent and Ken Smallwood, together with Jim Moyses and Stephen Farquhar were next on 42 points, followed by Brett Smith and Kalev Kutt, Laurie Sullivan and Jeff King, Eric Annandale and George Newlands, and Martin Cattalini and Mick Mellor, all on 41 points.

Nearest the pins – Trevor McCormick (4), Nancy Lynn (4), Martin Cattalini (7) and Mick Dowling (14);
Longest first putts – Terry Reeves (6), Ed Riley (9) and Eric Annandale (18);

Thursday scroungers
Last Thursday’s nine-hole scroungers competition was won in convincing style by the enigmatic Raymond Cooper.
After a series of recent lacklustre performances, Coop bounced back to form with a great score of 21.
He won by two shots from the steady John Jackson, runner-up on 19 points, followed by Trevor Graham, Ed Riley, Eric Annandale, Jim Moyses and Terry Massara, all on 18 points.
Graham Williams and Kevin Ireland received a voucher each for their return of 17 points each.
Novelties went to Frank Battista (4), Graham Williams (6) and John Suckling (9).
John Wray’s 39 shots off-the-stick won him the day’s best gross score.
