Indoor pool survey
Council is conducting a survey to see what features people would like and use in an indoor heated pool.
You can go online on the Council website at Have Your Say, until September 16, or attend a community workshop on Wednesday September 27, from 5pm to 6.30pm at the Margaretta Wilson Centre.
RSVP for the workshop at admin@tredwell.com.au
For those who don't have access to a computer or smartphone, printed surveys will be available soon, so there is no need to miss out.
If you wish to attend the workshop but can't rsvp online, I suggest you approach the staff at the Library for assistance.
Busy weekend
It was a very busy weekend last weekend, with markets, garage sales and cake stalls.
I hope it went well for everyone.
It does seem a pity when some weekends there is nothing on, then there will be one where there's so much on, all events suffer as people can't get to them all.
There have been attempts in the past to have an events calendar so that those planning fundraisers can avoid clashing with similar events, but it has never really worked.
People either haven't notified the administrators of the events they plan, or people assume they will draw large crowds in spite of rival attractions.
What's on in the Collie River Valley is available online, but not everyone can be bothered going online, and there are still some who don't have access to a computer or lack the knowhow to access information.
My advice to those planning events is to use every avenue available, the newspaper, the radio, posters, flyers and the net, to get your message out.
Garden competition
The entry forms for this year's Keeping Up Appearances Garden competition will be out next week.
The judges are in the process of discussing possible changes to the sections after reviewing the entries from the past few years.
They have some ideas about sections which may better suit some entrants.
Entries will close on Tuesday, October 2, with judging being done the following week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 10, 11 and 12.
While every effort will be made to visit gardens on a preferred day, this will depend on the availability of the judges.
Markets
The Goods Shed markets are on again this Sunday from 8am to 12 noon.
A variety of stalls, including books, fancy goods and fruit and vegetables are usually there, and you can have morning tea or coffee in the restored dining car.
Country music
The next Country Music pleasant afternoon will be held on Sunday, September 16 at the North Collie Hall, from 1.30pm to 4pm.
Tea and coffee will be available, but bring your own nibbles for afternoon tea.
CWA soup and sandwich
This month's soup and sandwich will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at the CWA Hall in Throssell Street.
Doors open at 11.30am for 12 noon service of soup, sandwiches, cakes and slices, tea or coffee.
It is extremely good value at $10, which also gets you a ticket in the door prize.
There will be raffles and a trade table, plus friendly smiling service from the lovely CWA ladies.
Tree planting
The next tree planting for the Friends of the Collie River will be held on Saturday, September 22.
It was postponed from last Saturday.
Check on their Facebook for details of times and place.
This event is in line with the current exhibition at the Art Gallery, Gifts from the Bush and Beach.
Antiques
The Coalfields Museum is joining in with Festivarty this year, holding an antiques and collectors day on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16.
You will be able to visit the museum to have your items assessed by experts for the small fee of $5 per item, so start looking out those precious items and dust them off in readiness.
Apart from any items you bring along, the only antiques on show will be the Museum's collection, and there will be no items for sale.
Night at the Museum
The programme for the Night at the Museum on Thursday, September 20, has now been finalised.
There has been a few changes from the original information - the Museum will be open from 7pm to 9.30pm, there will be a $5 entry fee, and wine and cheese will be served.
Bookings for the night of history, mystery and fun (and wine and cheese) can be made online at the Festivarty site.
Book there, and pay on the night.
Cancer support
The Cancer Council of WA will be hosting the first of its four part Keystones information seminar on Friday, September 21.
The seminars support newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families with information on a range of topics including nutrition, exercise, finances, and emotions.
The seminar will be held at Dot’s Place in Bunbury from 5.15pm until 8pm. Registrations are essential, book at www.keystones-bunbury.eventbrite.com.au.
Help needed
The rebuilt Railway Station has an electric model railway built around a model of Collie, and it has been a great attraction for kids big and small.
However, it is in need of some knowledgeable volunteer to keep it in good running condition.
If you can help out in this department, call in to the station, they will be delighted to hear from you.
