A 28-year-old Collie man was fined $1500 in the Collie Magistrates Court last week after he pleaded guilty to possessing between 300 and 400 kilograms of stolen copper.
Arron Thomas Jackson was charged with possession of stolen property after he and two other people attempted to sell the copper, with an estimated value of $2500, to a scrap metal dealer in Bunbury on July 13.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Barry Phelps told the court the copper had been stolen from Collie Steel two days prior to the attempted sale.
Sergeant Phelps said Jackson told police he had found the copper while out in the bush.
Jackson also pleaded guilty to no authority to drive after being caught by police in Johnston Street on July 16 driving with a suspended licence.
Jackson received a fine of $1500 for possessing the stolen copper and $1000 for the driving offence, as well as a nine-month disqualification.
A 39-year-old Collie woman who was also charged in relation to the stolen copper will appear in court next month.
