A 39-year-old Collie man was handed fines totalling $3050 after pleading guilty to six separate offences in the Collie Magistrates Court.
Clinton Peter Kaurin appeared in court on September 12 to plead guilty to no authority to drive, driving with a false number plate, driving an unlicensed vehicle, possession of cannabis, obstructing police and possessing unlicensed ammunition.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Barry Phelps told the court police had pulled over Kaurin approximately 5.10pm on August 26 after they noticed he had different licence plates on the front and back of his vehicle.
He said police then conducted a search of Kaurin’s vehicle, and as a result they seized seven clip-seal bags containing cannabis seeds and a number of live shotgun cartridges.
Sergeant Phelps said as police attempted to place Kaurin under arrest, he refused to put his hands behind his back and told police not to touch him.
Magistrate Brian Mahon said the incident was the fourth time Kaurin had been caught driving without a licence since he had received a lifetime ban from driving in 2015.
He said it was likely that Kaurin would receive a suspended term of imprisonment if he was caught doing it again.
Kaurin told the court he felt his lifetime ban from driving was unfair and he had been trying to get it overturned, but had been unsuccessful so far.
Mr Mahon imposed a fine of $200 for the false license plate, a $250 fine for the unlicensed vehicle, a $300 fine for the cannabis seeds, a $1000 fine for the obstruction of police, a $300 fine for the ammunition, and a $1000 fine for driving with a suspended licence along with a further nine-month disqualification.
