Two Collie youths have been referred to the juvenile justice team after pleading guilty to trespass offences in the Collie Children’s Court.
The 17-year-old female and 16-year-old male appeared in court on Wednesday, October 10 to plead guilty to one count of trespass without a lawful excuse each in regard to an incident that occurred on June 20.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Greg Ward told the court the pair, along with two other people, had been in the rear yard of the St Brigid’s Catholic Church when they decided to enter a store room on the property with the intention of smoking cannabis.
Sergeant Ward said the group had been asked to leave the grounds by the church’s Father, and when they refused, police were called and attended the scene.
Magistrate Belinda Coleman elected to refer the pair to the juvenile justice team rather than imposing a sentence for the offences.
The juvenile justice team works with youth offenders, their families, victims and police to divert youths away from the criminal justice system.
