Former Collie Lions Club member Bill Weir was recognised recently as he became the fourth Collie member to be inducted into the WA Lions Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Perth on Friday, November 2.
Mr Weir, who passed away in 2007, was nominated by the local club for his commitment to the Collie community and his dedication to Lions projects throughout his life.
Collie Lions Club president Ray Zinner said Mr Weir was a worthy recipient of the honour.
“Bill is held in very high regard at the club, having joined four years after the club began,” he said.
“He was a doer and led by example and was involved in and often the instigator of most projects.”
Mr Weir also served as a shire councillor in the late 1960s and was heavily involved in the local basketball association for more than 25 years.
He was awarded life membership of both the Collie Basketball Association and the Collie Lions Club, while also having the Rolling Stock Shed bear his name.
Mr Weir became the fourth local member inducted into the hall of fame after Jeff Needham, who was inducted in 2012, and both Irma Needham and Lyn Mitchell, who were inducted in 2017.
Mr Zinner said the Collie club was ‘punching above its weight’ with four of the 36 members inducted state-wide, which was a testament to the commitment of the local members.
