Allocation of funding from the Shire of Collie for the Community Small Grants Fund Round One 2018/19 was granted to three groups at the November 13 council meeting.
Eight groups applied for round one to help fund their project up to $5000.
To receive a grant, groups needed to comply with a list of criteria which included; ensuring they’re a not for profit organisation, their project delivers economic development and/or beneficial to the community, they hadn’t previously received a grant in the same financial year, and their project will be undertaken within the Shire of Collie where funds will be expended whenever possible.
Each application was carefully assessed by four shire staff members and were put in a ranking order, with the top three groups being put in the officer’s recommendation.
Voting unanimously, councillors decided to go with the officer’s recommendation to allocate $5000 to the Collie Horse and Pony Club for their kitchen fit out and WA Endurance Riders Association Inc for their Tom Quilty Gold Cup 2020.
They also allocated $4900 to the Collie Police Community and Youth Centre for their Tools n Trails Camp, which looks at giving at risk youth a chance to build their own bikes, ride the trails and be mentored.
The Collie Cricket Club Inc, Collie Heritage and Menshed Group Inc, Collie Early Education Inc and St Brigid’s P and F did not receive any funding for their requested projects.
One application was deemed non-compliant as it was asking for business registration and incorporation costs.
A total of $30,000 was allocated to the small grants in the 2018/19 budget with it being divided between two rounds with $14,900 in each.
