Relatives of people killed when James Gargasoulas went on a car rampage through Melbourne want to make sure more families don't have to endure similar pain.
A Supreme Court jury found Gargasoulas guilty of murdering six pedestrians and 27 counts of reckless conduct endangering life over the January 2017 attack.
Lawyer Genna Angelowitsch, who represents five of the victims' families, said they were grateful for the hard work of prosecutors and police in achieving the guilty verdicts a day earlier.
"They're mostly just relieved this part of the case can be put behind them and they can now focus on sentencing," Ms Angelowitsch told radio 3AW on Wednesday.
While Gargasoulas will not be sentenced until next year, more than two years after the attack, the families want to ensure "the right outcome" and will prepare victim impact statements for the January 29 plea hearing.
"If he's put away for a long time that will at least given them peace of mind, but that doesn't fix Christmases or birthdays or anniversaries," Ms Angelowitsch said.
"They just want to make sure this doesn't happen to another family."
Once the criminal case has concluded, the coroner will deliver a finding at a date to be fixed.
Questions about police responses to the incident will be explored in detail and civil action by the families could follow.
Ms Angelowitsch said any action would be directed at the Transport Accident Commission, given a vehicle was involved, but she has no instructions to pursue action at this stage.
Asked if police missed chances to prevent the 2017 attack, Premier Daniel Andrews said he would always support officers, and referred to the ongoing coronial investigation.
"I have nothing but praise for our police," he said.
"Every incident provides opportunities for improvement, but you won't be getting me being critical of police."
Assistant Commissioner Ross Guenther would not comment on the police response to Gargasoulas, saying the matter was still before court.
"In any of those sort of events there are learnings for law enforcement, for the community, for government. We take a lot out of those lessons," he told ABC radio.
Ms Angelowitsch represents the families of three-month-old Zachary Bryant, Jess Mudie, 23, Matthew Si, 33, Bhavita Patel, 33, and Yosuke Kanno, 25.
The other murder victim was 10-year-old Tahlia Hakin.
Gargasoulas will return to court on January 29 for a two-and-a-half day plea hearing ahead of sentencing.
