Collie suffered its first loss of the season as it took on Leschenault in a T20 Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association C-grade competition match on the weekend, a different format to the usual 50-over matches.
Gagan Sidhu and Connor Mumme opened the batting with Collie winning the toss.
It was great to see Mumme back in form and striking the ball well.
The boys put on 49 runs until Sidhu (23) hit one to long-on to be caught out.
Kyle Hulls joined Mumme and they amassed some quick runs together with seven fours and two sixes to put Collie in a strong position.
Hull was finally dismissed for 28 then Jarved Dallywater (10) stepped in until he inside-edged a ball back onto his wicket.
Matthew Reuben (7) followed shortly after then Mumme was caught hitting out on 49. Austin Kent and Aaron Worlley batted well together with Kent striking the ball well and making a quick 27 not out.
Worlley (9) was ran out on the last ball as Collie finished with the figures of 5/166 off 20 overs.
Collie was unable to take a wicket from Leschenault until the score was on 51, when Sidhu rattled the stumps.
A few hard chances went by and Leschenault took their opportunities.
With the white ball, Collie bowled 18 wides and three no-balls as Leschenault only lost one wicket when they reached the score needed with four balls remaining.
Bowling – D. Elvin 4 overs 0/31, K. Hulls 1 over 0/7, G. Sidhu 4 overs 1/27, A. Armstrong 4 overs 0/28, M. Thompson 2 overs 0/33, A. Worlley 2 overs 0/25, M. Reuben 2.2 overs 0/15.
Year 7
Collie played Donnybrook in Balingup on Saturday for the first time in the current Bunbury and Districts Year 7 cricket competition.
Currently Collie is sitting bottom of the ladder with Donnybrook at the top.
Collie captain Cruz McCagh won the toss and opted to bowl first.
In the first over Montana Dallywater ran out Donnybrook’s opening batsman with a direct hit off of his sister’s, Isabella Dallywater’s bowling.
It wasn’t long before another wicket was had, following a great catch by Oliver McLean off of newbie Toby Hanns’ precise bowling.
When Isabella Dallywater took to the pitch for her second over, McLean showed yet another display of steady hands when he caught the third batsman.
Hanns then followed in Isabella Dallywater’s footsteps and took his second wicket in as many overs.
Collie then managed to continue its exceptional bowling to finish Donnybrook’s innings on 4/90.
Collie knew they had a big chase on their hands so they sent out captain McCagh and Isabella Dallywater to start the batting, but unfortunately both were dismissed early.
Lucas Worlley and Dylan Rees were then on strike and it was in the sixth over that Worlley was sent packing after setting a great run total of 14. Rees then fell in the same over (0).
In the next over Isabella Dallywater’s batting came to an end (1) and two new batsmen geared up to chase Donnybrook’s first innings total.
Tyson Washer and Montana Dallywater worked well to keep Collie’s hopes alive.
At the end of the innings Collie was 4/74.
Collie knew if they were to have any chance for another upset win they must dismiss Donnybrook early.
McCagh clean bowled Donnybrook’s highest batsmen for the day in the 18th over.
Washer then took his first wicket in the 21st over which was followed not long after by a wicket from McLean.
The final wicket to fall was by the precise bowling of Washer once again as Donnybrook finished all out for 147 off 27 overs.
Montana Dallywater and Washer resumed their spot at the crease after innings break.
It wasn’t long until both batters retired after facing 35 balls each. McLean was unfortunate to get caught and bowled on one.
As Collie was a player down Rees then took to the crease again.
Rees has been kept to only ducks this season and with full support and confidence of his team-mates, he faced 18 balls, hit two fours and was dismissed on 11.
Montana Dallywater then returned after his retirement and batted well with newcomer Hanns.
As the overs were coming to an end the boys were instructed to take any opportunity to hit boundaries.
In doing so Montana Dallywater was caught when on an impressive 56 while Hanns was not out on 13.
Collie finished all out for 139 after their full 30 overs.
Even though there was not a win the team improved immensely, not only on their batting, but also bowling as there were 14 sundries, which is less than half from previous games.
Year 9
Collie played host to Grammar at Roche Park, winning the toss and batting first. Openers Robbie Chitty and Zac Reuben got Collie off to another solid start, until Chitty was out for 11 and the score 1/25.
Max Ireland was next in and despite not feeling the best, once again come out and played some nice shots around the ground.
Reuben and Ireland got the scoreboard going well and put on 45 before Reuben was out for a well made 21.
Adam Worlley come in with the score 2/70 and then Ireland was next to go for a well made 25 and it was 3/86.
Josh Elliott joined Worlley at the crease and the pair really got things going with a great partnership of running between wickets and putting bad balls to the fence.
The partnership got to 62 before Worlley was retired on 28. Blayden Coverley then joined Elliott for another 27 partnership before Elliott was also retired, on 35. Liam Wilson went in with a couple of overs to go and was out for 1. Coverley batted well at the end and finished on 17 not out, with Jack Williams 0 not out.
Collie finished 4/190 from 35 overs.
Adam Worlley and Zak Reuben opened the bowling and both picked up an early wicket to have Grammar 2/10 early on.
Liam Wilson was next and bowled two overs for 0/16, then Odinn Kirk playing his first game of cricket also bowled two overs for 0/16.
With the score ticking over quickly, Robbie Chitty (3 overs 0/4) and Max Ireland (3 overs 0/7) both bowled well to tighten things up.
Jack Williams (2 overs 1/13) picked up his first wicket playing cricket as he clean bowled the best Grammer batsman behind his legs and the team celebrated accordingly.
Then young gun Heidi Ireland (1 over 1/3) who has been helping out in the field come on for an over and picked up a wicket, plumb middle stump LBW.
Grammar was 4/63 after 18 overs as Josh Elliott ( 3 overs 2/7 ) went on with his leg spin and picked up the next two wickets, one caught by Reuben, and one bowled.
Cooper Earl, who was also filling in, bowled well for two overs 0/6, then Blayden Coverley (2 overs 1/10) picked up a wicket bowled with the score now 7/92.
Adam Worlley (4.4 overs 3/7) and Zak Reuben 4 overs 1/11) were then brought back to finish the game and Worlley picked up two more, one caught by Robbie Chitty and one bowled.
Grammar finished 9/102 which gave Collie the match by 88 runs.
