Two South32 Worsley Alumina employees were recognised recently with their inclusion on the Women in Mining UK’s 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining list.
Overland bauxite conveyor supervisor Jenny ten Broeke and electrical work management planner April Richardson-Schuch were included in the list, which recognises women who have persevered through adversity and become role models for others in the industry.
Ms Richardson-Schuch was nominated for her work in the company’s Work Inspirations program which aims to empower and inform young women about employment opportunities in the mining sector.
Ms ten Broeke, who is wheelchair-bound due to multiple sclerosis, has served as an inspiration to many for her commitment to her job.
Both Ms Richardson-Schuch and Ms ten Broeke attended the launch event in London recently, and Ms Richardson-Schuch said it was an honour to be included on the list.
“It’s been a spectacular experience for me ... and I’m honoured to have met so many other inspiring women with so much experience,” she said.
More than 640 women were nominated for the list, with the final 100 selected representing 28 countries.
