Business Big Bash
The businesses of the Shire of West Arthur would like to invite the shire residents to a sausage sizzle on December 21 from 6-9pm at the Skate Park in Darkan to thank them for their support throughout the year.
November Council Meeting
Good news from the November West Arthur Shire Council meeting included the decision to continue the senior’s meals service indefinitely, following the successful trial.
The shire also agreed to sponsor the Darkan Sheepfest with a cash contribution of $2,500 and in-kind support for grounds preparation, free use of facilities, and supply and removal of rubbish bins.
Following on with the shire being successful in receiving federal grant funding for solar panels, the council supported the funding of the 50 per cent contribution towards the solar power for the Darkan Sport and Community Centre and the Health and Resource Centre from reserve funds and also decided to conduct the 2019 elections as in-person elections, not postal.
Christmas Shopping at the CRC
Come in during December to have a look at the locally made range of craft for sale during our “Made in West Arthur” promotion.
There might be something to take your fancy—including the CRC’s 2019 Upcycling Calendar for a uniquely West Arthur gift!
It’s in the Bag 2018
Thanks to everyone around Darkan who donated a bag (or more) to the drive this year.
The CRC received over 30 bags that will go to the Djookanka House Women's Refuge Narrogin—thanks to Courtney Kett in Williams for collecting and getting them to the centre.
Car Boot Sale Success
The Lions Club of West Arthur recently raised $400 from their car boot sale in Darkan.
The Lions donuts were a great success as usual and the children enjoyed the Lions train.
The club is looking at upgrading some of the signage on their train and smartening up the carriages in the New Year.
Better Beginnings School Visit:
Thanks to the Darkan Primary School Kindy and Pre-Primary children who visited the Darkan Library last week for being such a lovely, well-mannered group of kids!
They listened to some story books from the Better Beginning “Animal” themed backpack, browsed in the library and looked around the new Health and Resource Centre building.
