Children from Jenni’s House family day care centre had a unique experience, with noted nature-play expert Niki Buchan visiting the centre last week.
Along with other family day carers from around the South West, Ms Buchan and the children toured the bush and undertook a range of outdoor activities, including climbing rocks and fallen trees, picking flowers and building houses out of bark, sticks and leaves.
Jenni’s House owner Jenni Costa said the experience allowed the children to use their minds and bodies in different ways, with particular focus on cognitive thinking and problem solving.
She also said one of the highlights for the children was seeing a coal train trundle past, something that many of the visiting children had not experienced before.
Ms Buchan also commented that Collie was lucky to have such beautiful nature spaces to learn in.
