Two 19-year-old Collie men were fined $400 in the Collie Magistrates Court last week after trespassing at Harris River Dam.
Bailey Alan Carroll and Kody Steven Cross both pleaded guilty to unlawfully entering an area of land at the dam where water service works were located and was not open to the public.
Water Corporation legal representative Conor Breheny told the court Water Corporation officers had seen two men walking along the water’s edge on July 17.
He said the men had slid down the spillway into the basin before they were spoken to by the officers.
Mr Breheny told the court the men had admitted they knew they weren’t allowed to enter the dam’s water, as it is a drinking water source, but they hadn’t seen any signs prohibiting them from entering the area.

While Carroll did not appear in court, Cross told the court they hadn’t entered the water at any point and it was a mistake he wouldn’t make again.
Magistrate Brian Mahon imposed a fine of $250 on Carroll and, taking into account his appearance before the court, a reduced fine of $150 for Cross.
Both were also ordered to pay $280.60 in court costs.
