Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray
As 2018 draws to a close and we move into the New Year it is a great time to reflect on what we have achieved both personally and as a community.
This year we’ve seen the Collie Futures Small Grants funding program deliver a share of almost $1 million to 11 recipients, which will facilitate diversification of the economy in Collie.
As Collie undergoes an economic transition we are working hard to ensure Collie has a bright future with jobs growth and prosperity.
On a personal note, Christmas time and the New Year can be a perfect opportunity to break the ice and rekindle old friendships or reconnect with family. Reaching out to those that truly mean a lot to you can be the best Christmas present one can ever receive.
During the festive season I ask everybody, particularly when on the roads and in the water, to please stay safe, look out for each other, be good and enjoy yourself.
Let’s all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Shire of Collie president Sarah Stanley
As a Shire, community, and for many individuals, this year has been a big one.
We welcomed new friends to our community and wished others well as they headed off on new adventures.
We’re very proud to have been named WA’s Tidy Town for the year, thanks to the efforts of our hardworking staff, volunteers, schools and community groups throughout the town.
We were one of three local governments acknowledged at the WA Heritage Awards, our CBD revitalisation was recognised at the Planning Institute of Australia’s National awards, and we received a commendation at the Infinity Awards for our waste management efforts.
Our key focus for the past year has been economic development. We’re collaborating more than ever before on developing our transition to a more diverse and sustainable economy.
When we have the right people working together, we start to see real change, and I’m excited about the possibilities for our community.
But for now, it is time to relax and enjoy the festive season. Have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
O’Connor MP Rick Wilson
In 2018, I secured significant federal funding for two Collie projects that will not only deliver economic benefits through job creation and the use of local suppliers, but will also increase visitation and expenditure.
Through the government’s Building Better Regions Fund Collie Motorplex received $764,000 to resurface its existing track, build a pedestrian overpass bridge and upgrade the marshalling area.
Around 15 jobs will be created during delivery of the project and a further 30 ongoing positions available upon completion. The upgraded facility will also allow for larger, safer and more frequent events.
The Shire of Collie received $420,000 to undertake environmental rehabilitation of the River Trail and Trail Corridor project and build a 5km dual-use cycle/walk track.
Although Collie has only been in my O’Connor electorate for two years, it has been a delight to get to know your town and deliver grants to worthy causes.
Please do not hesitate to contact my Forrest Street office should you need assistance.
Warm wishes for a merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
Collie Police Senior Sergeant Heath Soutar
Kaya (hello). This year has been very challenging for the community of Collie and the Police Officers that serve you.
I am very proud of my team and their efforts in providing trusted and valued policing to you all.
I would like to acknowledge all of our strategic partners and the Collie community who work with us collaboratively to achieve mutual goals.
If going away on holidays – ‘Make it Tougher For Crooks’. Thieves pick easy targets, you can help frontline police by being aware and making small changes to how you look after your valuables and home.
Please be safe on our roads. Double demerit points come into force from midnight Thursday, December 21 2018 and remain in place until midnight Sunday, January 6 2019. Drivers caught using a mobile phone, speeding, drink or drug driving, running a red light or not wearing a seatbelt will receive the double penalties.
Our traffic efforts will see highly visible and targeted patrols on our roads, with police enforcing those offences strongly associated with serious crashes.
On behalf of the team at Collie Police Station I would like to wish you all a very djurapin (happy) Christmas and safe and prosperous New Year.
