Previously: A search is underway for the body of a 22-year-old man who drowned at Stockton Lake last night.
Shortly after 5:20pm on Monday January 7, Collie Police responded to a report of a man who failed to surface while swimming at the lake.
Collie Senior Sergeant Heath Soutar said a family were using inflatables in the water before a man had difficulty while swimming.
He said three women swam out to attempt to rescue the man, but were unsuccessful.
People have come out to rescue that individual, but it appears that it was too late and he already had gone under the surface, Senior Sergeant Soutar said.
He said Water Police were at the scene in an attempt to locate and recover the mans body.
Where the Water Police are searching at the moment, its approximately 15 to 16 metres in depth. Where the man was swimming it was in waist water depth, but there are some steep drop offs here at Lake Stockton, he said.
The lake has been closed for all activity but the camping grounds remain open.
