More than 1000 people are expected to flock to Darkan on February 9 as the town hosts its second annual Sheepfest.
The country show, recognising the region’s wool and sheep farming industries, was successful in its first year and will return with more attractions in 2019.
The draw-card event of the day will be the Farm Boot Foot Race, a ‘mini-Stawell gift’ pitting local footballers against farmers.
Also included for 2019 will be the Young Farmer Challenge, where the next generation of farmers will be able to show off their skills.
Sheepfest will also feature other favourites such as the sport shear competition, wool fashions parades, a sheepdog show and waterslides for the children.
Darkan Sheepfest chairperson Nathan King said the day would allow Darkan to show off the ‘sheep and wool way of life’ to visitors from the city.
West Arthur Shire president Ray Harrington said he was excited to see the day continue and that he was proud of the work put in by the Sheepfest committee.
He also said fundraising by the football club to install lights at the Darkan Town Oval would allow the festivities to continue into the night.
“It should be a really good day just like it was last year,” he said.
Entry to the day will be by gold coin donation
Competitors wishing to enter the Farm Boot Foot Race can sign up by visiting the Darkan Sheepfest facebook page, with nominations opening this weekend.
