The Ashcroft family continued with their consistent form in the Busselton season last Friday evening.
Errol’s smart three-year-old Henwood Bay was again successful as a $2.50 and $1.30 favourite. Though slow away this week he then faced the breeze and drew away for a very solid win for reinsman Ashleigh Markham.
This win means he is running equal second in the Horse of the Year award at the track after three wins.
Bianca’s Triple Brie was also slowly away for Trent Wheeler before sitting one out and one back and running on stoutly for second as a $1.40 place chance.
Trent started the night out behind Michael Callegari’s track specialist Budd Sidewinder who stormed to the front in the straight the final time for a win in the very smart time of 2.03.
He started a $2.50 favourite and his place price of $1.90 was very good value. He also has three wins at the track for the season.
The Wallrodt family finished the night off well with Cody driving his mum’s horse Shelby Cruzin to an impressive third after coming from last as a $4.90 place chance.
Cody then drove Jacky Gee for Michael Geurds in the final event, settling three back in the moving line before finishing too well for the opposition for a fine win. He was great value at $20.30 for the win and $3.40 the place.
The action moved to Albany for the following evening on Saturday for a marathon 10-event programme where Trent Wheeler drove three seconds for three different trainers.
Bob Poolman’s Jilliby Jake led before being collared in the run home, returning a place dividend of $1.50.
A skinny $1.10 was the place price for Terry Ferguson’s Major Beachboy who sat behind the leader on the pegs.
Jeremy Thornton’s evergreen pacer Just Barney was a better result for place punter’s returning $2.10 after sitting three back on the pegs.
Busselton’s second last meeting of the season is to be run tomorrow evening with Bunbury and Pinjarra to follow on Saturday night and Monday afternoon respectively. Several Collie pacers will be running at each of these meetings.
It’s only three weeks to Collie’s first meeting of the 2019 season featuring the Spry’s Meat Market King Coal Cup.
All the usual attractions will be there with the Chocolate Wheel again giving away a week’s holiday at the Kalbarri Beach Resort, a free bike for one lucky kid on course and the Pick 4 and $3000 Select the Order Tipping competitions.
An additional attraction for the children on course will be the opportunity to sit in a Dual Sulky behind one of the Pony Trotters for a lap after they have raced.
