The Coalfields Museum’s displays have a new lease on life after the museum received a grant for new lighting to be installed.
The museum received a $3250 grant from the Yancoal Australia Community Support Program to install LED lights and powerpoints around the displays.
Coalfields Museum and Historical Research Centre president Joe Italiano said the grant was ‘really important’ to the museum.
“Without good lighting, there’s really no point to having the displays,” he said.
“Basically we changed all the fittings and put in LED lights.
“It was quite dark, so this enables everyone to see the displays much better.”
Mr Italiano said the grant was also used to install more powerpoints, in order to provide power for future displays.
Premier Coal training advisor Steve Plaskett toured the museum last week and said the company was proud to provide the financial support.
“(The museum) is something that will bring people to Collie and … we’re proud to support projects that will benefit Collie into the future.”
Mr Italiano said the lights were just one of the upgrades being undertaken at the museum.
He said the museum had plans ‘to keep improving’ and he was particularly excited by the work being done to refurbish a bus in the museum’s collection that will be turned into a mobile display.
