A record number of students across Western Australia have packed their schoolbags and headed to classrooms this week for the start of the 2019 school year.
St Brigid’s welcomed 24 children into its kindergarten class on Monday, February 4.
The children started the day learning each others’ names, making name badges and painting as well as playing in all the learning centres, outdoors and learning how to follow kindy rules such as how to pack away things, developing good sitting and listening skills, keeping hands to themselves and being a kind friend.
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said more than 460,000 students from kindergarten to Year 12 were expected back at public, catholic and independent schools across the state this week.
“There are a record number of students this year, with more than 310,000 in public schools alone,” she said.
“We have 25,000 teachers - who are keen to inspire creativity and learning in each of their students.
“I wish all students, their teachers and families all the very best for a successful and positive school year ahead.”
