Collie played Grammer down at Grammer on Saturday, February 9, losing the toss and being sent in to bat.
Openers Blayden Coverley and Josh Elliott both made three and the score was 2/13 early on.
When Liam Wilson and Jack Williams were both out for ducks it was 4/26.
Judd Rinder got a few good shots away before he was out for 14 and the score looking shaky at 5/38.
Max Ireland and Adam Worlley looked to steady the ship with a 30-run partnership before Ireland was out for 22 and the score 6/68.
Zak Reuben joined Worlley for another 23-run partnership before he was out for 15.
Then young star Heidi Ireland made three in a handy 25 partnership with Worlley before she was out but with the score looking a bit better at 8/116.
Robbie Chitty was in next and made six, then it was down to Lucas Worlley joining brother Adam in the middle.
The pair who have spent many hours arguing in the backyard throwing things at each other added 14 together and with Adam on 49, Lucas put in a big dive to just make his ground for a very mature 50 not out from Adam.
Lucas made 2 not out and Collie finished 9/143, good recovery from 5/38.
Collie got off to a reasonable start with the ball but couldn’t get an early wicket.
Robbie Chitty bowled 4 overs 0/13 and Zak Reuben bowled well with 4 overs 0/6.
Grammer then started to tick the runs over.
Blayden Coverley bowled 2 overs 0/15, Liam Wilson 3 overs 0/19, Max Ireland bowled well trying some off spin for 3 overs 0/7 and Judd Rinder bowled well without luck for 4 overs and didn’t concede a run.
After drinks Adam Worlley bowled 3 overs 0/12, then Josh Elliott finally broke through with the score 98 thanks to a catch from Robbie Chitty.
Elliott finished with 4 overs 1/16. Jack Williams bowled 2 overs 0/18 and with Grammer only needing a run a ball with 9 wickets left in the last 6 overs the job was left with the youngsters Heidi Ireland (Y5), Lucas Worlley (Y6) and then Blayden Coverley given the job to finish.
As per last week the team was in a good situation to learn about important field settings in tight finishes.
Heidi bowled well for 2 overs 0/7 and Lucas bowled 2 overs 1/11, his second over which was second last of the innings produced a run out and a wicket stumped by Max Ireland; the score 3/135. With 9 needed from the last over Blayden Coverley (4 overs 0/24) bowled really well, only conceding three runs. Collie won by five runs.
B-grade
Collie defeat Marist to cement second place
Collie travelled to Bunbury to play Marist. Marist won the toss and chose to bat first getting away to a good start with some wayward bowling from the Collie opening bowlers Jason Borrett and Steve Ireland.
Swing bowling veteran Mark Williams got Collie’s first wicket with the score on 69 and after the first Collie took control of the innings with some tight bowling through the middle overs from Matt Tanner, Gagan Sidhu and Tyson Hayes. With dot ball pressure being built Collie started taking consistent wickets and kept Marist to a total of 8/191 from their 50 overs. It was a similar story to the last few weeks with Collie starting poorly and having to work hard to steal momentum back from the opposition.
Best bowlers: M. Tanner 3 for 24 from 10, M. Williams 2 for 38 from 10, T. Hayes 1 for 15 from 5.
Collie had a very deep batting order and 191 was very much within reach if the team could build partnerships. Bailey Moloney and Brayden Kent managed 17 together until Moloney fell to a plumb LBW.
Mark Williams joined Kent and they batted well together and with Collie on 61 Williams was bowled for 18. Malatesta joined Kent and together they began to dispatch the Marist attack to all parts.
The pair were going strongly until Kent was bowled just one run short of his half century. With Collie looking very strong at 3 for 137 Greg Tomasini and Seth White decided to make it interesting with the two being dismissed for 5 and 0 respectively.
Gagan Sidhu joined Malatesta and eased the pressure of two quick wickets to get the score to within 20.
Malatesta was caught in the covers for a well made 59 with Collie needing just 19 for victory.
A dashing 6 not out from Matt Tanner along with Sidhu being 20 not out got Collie over the line within 40 overs meaning Collie also secured a bonus point for the win, cementing their place in second on the ladder.
Best Batsmen: B. Malatesta 59, B. Kent 49, G. Sidhu 20 not out.
C-grade
Collie vs Burekup: C-grade managed to break their losing streak and keep their chances alive after a tough game.
Collie won the toss and elected to bat. Unfortunately for Collie Burekup were on their game from the beginning and didn’t let up all day with their tight bowling.
They ripped through the top order and Collie were 6/41. J. Dallywater then teamed up with R. Bebbington and the pair batted well together and ran hard between the wickets.
Dallywater brought up his 50 but was unable to stick around much longer, dismissed for 54. J. Fraser got a handy 15 before being caught.
Bebbington picked up a few more runs before being bowled for 28. Collie were all out in the 34th over for 134. Collies' bowling had to be good; and it was great! R.
Loxton picked up the first wicket with his first ball caught in second slip by Dallywater. Loxton picked up two more wickets and finished 9 over 3/27.
Bebbington followed up from his fine batting to get two 'caught and bowled'. Bebbington bowled 9 overs 2/30. Fraser took a great catch in the deep off J. Shepherd's bowling.
Shepherd bowled extremely well with 9 overs 3/17. Dallywater also kept the runs down with 7 overs 0/18. L. McCormick came back fired up after his first spell, to rip through the last two batsmen. McCormick finished 2/23 off 5.3 overs. Collie bowled Burekup all out for 118.
