The Collie Cricket Club hosted what will be an annual event from now on, the Past Players' T20 cricket day, last Sunday.
Champion cricketers of Collie's past pulled on their old club colours at Roche park in front of a large crowd of more than 100 people to show their support for Bullfinch, Saints, Bushrangers and Railways, who were the last remaining clubs before going to form the Collie Cricket Club in 2008.
There was a huge turnout of players , some who haven’t played for 25 years.
Some showed that time hasn’t slowed them down, running around like they did in there prime.
For others , they struggled to run around at all.
In the first game, Railways narrowly defeated Bushrangers.
Bailey Moloney top scored with 40, with Chad Greenmount making 22.
After that it was a pretty lean score sheet for Bushrangers, with no-one making it to double figures.
Seth White took three wickets for Railways, with Jamie Pitchers and Darryl Fraser taking two each.
Pitchers had a rare day out when he top scored for Railways with 38, something that his teammates weren’t use to seeing, helped by Kane Saunders with 23 to get them over the line.
Best of the Bushrangers bowlers were Chad Greenmount, Brayden Kent and Trevor Kent, all taking two wickets each.
The last game was between Saints and Bullfinch.
Saints batted first and Wayne Underdown and Aaron Marley opened the batting.
Underdown showed nothing has changed since the Saints' days, getting run out early just like 10 years ago.
Aaron Marley made 49 before retiring to the bar and Chris Michalak, 44 before joining him.
For Bullfinch CJ Naismith claimed three wickets, with Ted Green, Doug Crowe, Harvey Rinder, Ryan Chappell and Brett Hanson all getting one each.
Peter Rose opened the bowling for Saints and had Cheyne Crellin out in the first over, the third wicket he has ever taken.
A quickfire 14 from CJ Naismith and 27 from Jared Debenham threatened to take the game away from Saints, but in the end they fell just short.
Rose and Boomer Coverlet both finished with three wickets for Saints.
The club would like to thank not only the players, but all the families who came out to support the match and the volunteers who helped set-up, man the bar, cook, umpire, take photographs, and everything else that went into the day. Thanks to you all for making it a great day out for all involved.
The Club looks forward to holding another successful Past Player's Day game next year.
