More than OK for AK
It was a day more than just okay for Alan Kent in last Saturday’s 18-hole stableford, sponsored by the Solstice Group.
In warm but pleasant conditions for golf, Kent played a consistent round, albeit a brief hiccup on the 18th. He returned the good score of 39 stableford points, beating runner-up, Fred Bronickis who finished on 38 points. Narrogin’s Bill Rybarczyk claimed the third place trophy for his round of 37 points.
Also on 37 points, beaten on a countback was John Soutar – Robertson, followed on 36, by Regan Old, Richard Chadwick and Warren Hann.
Vouchers were paid down to 35 and the recipients of these were new member, Paul Goodwin and also Phil Warburton, John Wray and Stephen Farquhar.
Solstice members, Graham Williams and Joe Italiano each played well, returning scores of 39 and 37 points respectively.
Nancy Lynn played a great round in the ladies competition. She finished with 39 points to claim the trophy while Dot Lawrence received a voucher for her 34 return.
Novelty winners on the day were: Nearest the pins – John Wray (4), Ange Ireland (4), Clayton Flynn (7), Deb Van Vollenstee (12) and Greg Bell (14); Longest first putts – Graham Williams (6), Lesley Motion (9) and Eric Annandale (18); Long drive on No.15 – Bruce Jackson.
SCROUNGERS: Phil Warburton was a clear winner in last Thursday’s nine hole scroungers competition. Warby scored 21 points to win the event by two shots from a quartet of players, each on 19 points.
These players were Alby Hunter, George Newlands, Eric Annandale and Ron Annandale.
On an unusual scoring day, the next best score was 17 points. Vouchers for this score were paid to John Soutar-Robertson, Fred Bronickis, Ray Cooper and Joe Italiano.
Novelty winners were Rob Cavanagh (4), Phil Rabjones (6) and Ed Riley (9).
LEISURE DAY: Jarrad Miller was in fine form in last Tuesday’s leisure day competition. His all round game and scoring success has continued to improve on the occasions he can get to play and Tuesday was no exception.
He finished with 41 stableford points to claim first place from runner-up, Graham Williams, on a countback from third place getter, Terry Reeves. Both these players finished with 38 points.
Zac Faries was next with a well compiled 37 points, ahead of Tony Barker-May, on 36 points, followed by Charlie Buemi and Troy Murphy, each on 35 points.
The day’s best vet award went to Alan Kent for his return of 36 points. Novelties went to Bill Rybarczyk (4), Des Hebb (7), Colin Giblett (9), Graham Williams (14) and Jarrad Miller (18).
This Saturday’s event will be an 18 hole par competition, sponsored by the Life Members. Riverside nominations are now available at the club or on its website. Scroungers today and leisure day next Tuesday.
