Local football representatives are keen to see Hands Oval become one of the South West's biggest attractions.
South West Regional Football Development Council chairman Mark Blakely, South West Football League general manager Simone Nani, and key stakeholders are campaigning for redevelopments to the South Bunbury facility.
Over the past 18 months, Mr Blakely has been involved in talks with the City of Bunbury, Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray, and Bunbury MLA Don Punch.
Looking to bring Hands Oval into the 21st century, Mr Blakely said he and the football community were passionate about the project.
"The football community believes that the oval is well past its use-by date," he said.
"The City of Bunbury has been very proactive in trying to upgrade the facilities.
"Simone Nani and I had a meeting with the city a few weeks ago. Since then, someone from the city has been there every day looking at the facilities.
"The city has also prioritised Hands Oval as one of five major projects moving forward, within the next five years or so."
The City of Bunbury developed a 10-year Hands Oval Masterplan back in June 2011 with the aim to invest $8 million in redeveloping the facility.
Mr Blakely said Hands Oval could potentially host a wide array of major events including football matches and concerts.
"We think this place could feature office spaces for various sporting groups - football, netball, soccer, rugby etc," he said.
"Moving into a new era, this facility cannot just be used for football. It has got to be a multi-purpose facility."
Mr Blakely said future redevelopments could help to put Bunbury's sporting culture on the map.
"The South West Football League prides itself on being the number one country competition," he said.
"We believe we can get a facility which matches our status. Hopefully, we can get a facility that will serve us well for the next 50 years."
The South West Football League competition will start the year with a pre-season carnival for the womens on March 30.
The 2019 regular home and away season will begin on Saturday April 6.
The Collie Eagles will host the Eaton Boomers on Sunday April 7.
