Shelley Payne has been preselected as the Labor candidate for the federal seat of O'Connor.
Mrs Payne made the announcement today, March 20.
The regional seat, which includes Collie, has been held by Rick Wilson for the Liberal Party since the 2013 Federal election.
O'Connor is considered a safe seat for the Liberals, with Mr Wilson having won more than 65 per cent of the two-party preferred vote in 2016.
Mrs Payne said she was committed to developing a strong positive future for regional WA.
"It is time for a change in regional WA, and changing your vote is the best way to grab Canberra's attention," she said.
"I want to be part of a government that listens to country people and empowers them to innovate and contribute to driving their own future."
The candidate said as a mother of three, she was passionate about the environment, better education and improved services.
An official date for the election has not yet been set, but it is widely expected to be held in May.
More to come.
